Every high school senior in the country should be required to take a civics course. A requirement to pass it should be a minimum of twenty hours volunteering for any political campaign, political party or politically relevant news organization.
If you want to handicap races, decipher who is or isn't lying to you and identify why, it definitely helps to see things from the other side of the table. If 90% of Americans spent twenty hours at a campaign headquarters stuffing mail, answering phones, door knocking and cold calling.... It would be a lot harder for any politician, pundit or party to whitewash facts or distort them with nonsense.
I really do encourage everyone, especially young people to get their hands dirty and engage in the process. You'll see how flawed it is, and how little any of these people are 'worried' about what the vast majority of people think.
Masses don't win elections. Cue givers win elections, and they care only about their own agenda. The polls are a broken compass until there is enough money being spent to create a political North Pole for the needle to find it.
