The same thing happens to a civilian and even more so! Just imagine that most civilians do NOT have any "training" to deal with these situations (as the police are supposed to have) so their adrenaline also kicks in...it's basic biology - fight or flight response!
Combine that will all of the police beating/abuse videos and what do they expect someone to do? Especially civilians who have been told that the police are on their sides and are there to serve and protect!
Certainly naive of them but still what they are taught (the general public is slowly learning that we do live in a police state and it is becoming more apparent each day).

I refuse to put my health/life in the hands of an under-trained, under-paid, over-armed government employee or a justice system that takes his word over mine.
Thus my decades old experienced advise on how to minimize one's potential downside whenever face to face with a cop. Be polite, non-threatining, don't provoke.
That's real world advise.
