That was a truly unique experience for us as well and one we laughed about frequently, for years after. He was a complete lunatic. He had a tiny, shit studio with two sets from IKEA with the rest being just filthy, empty space, that he was planning to rent out to Private and other larger European producers for 1000's per day. It was like watching Lawrence Conner pitch a time machine he "invented" to Apple or something as he proudly showed us around his hovel.
Everything almost that came out of his mouth left us in stunned silence. As I've said, Eva was super nice to us. She seemed like a genuinely good person so i never really called him out on his lies and bullshit. Hard to be a dick to someone that invited you into their home and who's wife was so kind.... but I just got tired of his endless bullshit and lies.
He was NEVER successful. He NEVER shot good content. At the end of it all, he barely scraped enough together to buy a small place, in the middle of nowhere, in an economy still in the throes of post soviet chaos for cheap. As everyone knows he was on this forum not long after begging for money and he'd done that and was still taking about his immense success.
The most insane part was watching him deny it all, trying to say we'd never even been there.. In spite of describing tiny details, providing pics, describing the inside of his home and so on. I thought he was a lunatic but as I continued to read and look at his language... I started to think somehow info darker was at work.
The curious thing to me was that I mentioned going to the shoot with him and he called me a liar, saying he'd done one outside shoot and he correctly identified the one we went to. I described a lot about the shoot and showed pics of us there and it felt to me like he really didn't remember - and it really felt like something was going on there like early Alzheimer's or dementia or something.... but maybe he was betting I didn't have pics in his bullshit. But overall, he did seem like maybe he couldn't recall things for real.
Generally, the innocent deny and liars explain. He didn't offer long winded explanations and rationalizations, he basically denied and nothing more... then continued to deny no matter what facts were presented... then his final argument was "you weren't important enough to remember" which again would be consistent with early signs of memory impairment.... as he could only admit in the end hat he didn't remember it and sought to explain/rationalize that fact.
