Macular Degeneration isn't diabetes related it's more age-related

Macular degeneration, often age-related macular degeneration (AMD or ARMD), is a medical condition that usually affects older adults and results in a loss of vision in the center of the visual field (the macula) because of damage to the retina. It occurs in "dry" and "wet" forms. It is a major cause of blindness and visual impairment in older adults (>50 years), afflicting 30-50 million people globally.[1] Macular degeneration can make it difficult or impossible to read or recognize faces, although enough peripheral vision remains to allow other activities of daily life.

It causes you to lose vision in the center of your field of view, my mother has had it for 25 years, she was diagnosed at age 59 and her ophthalmologist told her " If there's anything you want to see in this world, do it now."
This is a version of what she sees, hers is worse than this though. she can only see a little bit around the edges.
There is no treatment as of right now but I was diagnosed a bit earlier than she was, I just have to take a vitamin formula that has been shown to slow the degeneration down a bit, but good news there's an experimental stem-cell treatment that's being tested now and my mom is going to be part of that study, all they promise is the treatment won't make her worse and the tests have shown that it may actually make it better.
I told her to not fuck things up for me.
So I have a little bit of hope that I won't end up dependent like she is.
