Maybe 3% or less of the gun owners are criminals (their guns are off the books anyway) the other 97% need to deal with that 3% element (or less) and have legitimate reasons for gun ownership. Gun criminal incarceration rates USDOJ --Bureau of Justice Statistics 2002, a little dated and with all that has gone on with terrorism and our internal politics of decisiveness, it may be worse today. If handgun sales were restricted to people issued CCW permits I would have no problem with it. Rifles and shotguns are part of Americana for hunting and property protection. AR 15's and other assault rifles do serve a purpose: They keep the government constitutionally proper.

Gun regulation of the Third Reich On second thought ... I'll take my chances ...

1: Any State requiring a "CCW Permit" is in violation of The Second Amendment so by Federal Law, any legislation requiring them is null and void.

2: An AR-15 is NOT an "assault rifle", it's a Modern Sporting Rifle. Please stop fueling the ignorance with that term.

^^^^^THAT is the ONLY answer that doesn't lead to another Revolutionary War.

Prison sentences are supposedly served to "repay your debt to society." That means when a convicted felon is released, they should have a clean slate. This includes restoring things like voting and gun rights. Being a convicted felon doesn't mean you don't deserve the same God given right to self preservation. Luke 22:36 "...and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one." The Biblical day's sword is today's gun.

If we can't trust a released convicted felon with a gun then we shouldn't trust them with a hammer and they should still be locked up.

The bottom line is exactly what Vendzilla said. Enforce the laws we have and stiffen their penalties.
