I said "possibly", because I am not interested in detailed discussion on all the different reasons for the Civil War. Sure, there may have been many Southerners who fought the war simply because of "States Rights" and were never interested in owning slaves even if they could afford it. There could be other reasons too. That does not take awy from the fatc that slave ownership was a major reason for the civil war.
