It should be a separate issue. The fact that these politicians are tying one thing to another is purely for their own advancement and to make people "feel good".
That's how I see it. YES, the Confederate Battle Flag should not only have been taken down, it should never have been there in the first place. YES, I am in agreement with the decision. No argument on that.
NO, it should not be tied to the murders that took place. Taking the flag down didn't do anything for that situation except to give the people in Columbia, SC a chance to "feel" like they did something about the murders.
They didn't.
Nobody can do anything about what happened.
Maybe it's just human nature when you feel powerless to do SOMETHING.
If that's the case, then I suppose taking the flag down might help some of the families who lost their loved ones feel a little bit better today. And that's definitely a good thing.
