Yep, 12,310 km2 is a rather huge area. On the other hand, the Moscow metropolitan area is 45,900 km2 which is 9x times larger than LA County

Who gives a fuck about the amount of land when talking about a metropolitan area? Anyone could rezone a city to appear massive that way. It's the population density that actually matters. Also, let's say that the area does matter, Oblast (region) and county are completely different.
