Obama won with the other set of decisionmakers. Cindy McCain and Sheldon Adelsohn weren't on his wish list, Oprah and JayZ were. You need the right combination of 500-1000 people who matter. Donny has no shot with most of them right off the bat. McCain was one he could have courted. He won't get backed by the ones who backed Obama, he won't get Clinton's backers, he won't get McCains backers... He isn't likely to get Romney's backers, he sure as hell won't get Kerry or Gore's backers. Those people move together.
If you want to predict elections with some accuracy, go back four or five election cycles and look at the candidates from the two parties. Ask yourself how many of their constituiencies might back any particular candidate this time around. It works with amazing clarity in most national and local elections.
Hillary can get every backer Obama, Bill Clinton, Kerry and Gore had. Not every voter, voters are sheep... Every backer, the people who decide how voters will behave.
Now look at the GOP. Who out there can carry the Reagen backers, W backers, Bush I backers, McCain backers, Romney backers, etc...? Any person who can get more than half of them hasn't announced candidacy yet. Most of the candidates can't even get the full support of one past candidate's backers. Bobby Jindal? Donald Trump? Carly Fiorina?
Candidates with no consensus (Trump) can't afford to piss of cue givers. Women and Latinos won't vote for trump... ever. To win he needs a landslide in the NorthEast (won't happen), huge support from the southern border states (he just pissed off Cindy McCain so you can kiss most of that goodbye)... There isn't a whole lot left for him to pull from.
