Its not about saving the $10-$15. The domain in question is a highly versatile media domain with high ranking potential for both adult and non-adult keywords.

I noticed OVGuide.com has adult content on its primary domain and they seem to do just fine (http://www.ovguide.com/adult.html).

As long as I'm correct in thinking the subdomain and primary domain are counted as separate domains entirely I don't see why I won't be able to maximize this domain's potential.
