As a surfer, tube sites are very compelling. You click and click and click to see one video after another after another. When the guy finds what he wants, he's "done" in about 5 minutes. He has no reason to click through to a site that charges him whatever when he just got off for free.
Tube Surfers are also immune to the banner and text ads too. If he's looking for blonde blue eyed boobie girls and an ad appears for anything else, he will completely ignore the ad.
If you try to show a 5 minute scene that is watermarked covering up the juicy bits, he will just click away to find another video.
*IF* there is away to make tube sites work for you, it has to be with a video that really gets the users attention and forces him to click through to your site. The video has to be fun and or funny and or sexy but ultimately, extremely creative.
I heard a pitch by this dink of a sales rep years ago who was asking models and producers to provide his tube site with 10 minute hardcore clips, claiming that this were the most popular, and would therefore get the most views, etc. What fucking bullshit.
I don't know how to advertise on a tube site and expect results, I'm sorry. Hopefully someone else here can help, and provide stats as proof.

Totally agree with this part. The big different is when you show the ad related to the content or history of the visitor. Search Technology in combination with ads is a big PLUS. Both for advertisers and affiliate programs.
More advance is when a user clicks on a category or does a search and you know this user email. Send him few hours later a email. And start with ;
