He mentioned martial arts training. Most schools / disciplines are the same. They train by kicking and punching the air, pretending to kick and punch each other (with no real contact) and then walk away thinking they are basically ready for a title shot... in spite of having no idea what its like to stand in front of someone who not only wants to hurt you, but has the skills to do it in a 100 different ways and the ability to easily move out of the way of anything you throw.
