as far as a conspiracy by big oil to take it out, its plausible, but unlikely, cause there were so few of them relative to gas cars. what would an oil exec worry about? maybe GM simply did not want to support parts for such a project as it would be expensive. that would be more plausible than big-oil-made-them-do-it. They didn't fizzle, many people that had the leases tried to buy the cars outright but GM made them turn all the cars in and then crushed them. There is only 2 or 3 which survived the fate of being crushed and were sold to auto museums.
