Nope. I think it has more to do with the average intelligence of the average person. People overall are not smart. (There's a reason why in advertising and mainstream media you are told to write at a grade 7 level of comprehension).
The average person sees how they think the world works (or should work) in a very simplistic way. And that same average person has a vote, just like you and I.
Trump is an expert at feeding on this simplistic view.
