Also on Friday, Deputy Premier and Police Minister Troy Grant announced that a new offence of possession of an illegal firearm would be created with a maximum penalty of 14 years.
Penalties of "at least 14 years imprisonment" would be introduced for unauthorised possession, acquisition or use of a pistol, prohibited firearm or a firearm that is "defaced, unregistered or stolen", he said.
An Illegal Firearms Investigation and Reward Scheme would also be created offering up to $10,000 for information leading to conviction of a person for possessing an illegal firearm.

Minimum 14 years for getting caught with a gun? Sounds reasonable. I'd like to be in the prison business when they start planting them on people in order to collect their 10k.
