Doesn't matter why he did it. Crazy person did crazy thing. Everything else is a pointless detail. People can cite any reason they want for why they did something crazy, but the fact that they act crazy means they are crazy.
When people kill for money or power; those are real motives. But when someone commits a senseless act that doesn't actually benefit them in any way, that's crazy. And that's why he should be locked up, since crazy people can't be allowed to roam free when they're dangerous.
