I have said this a few times and still believe it. There is a good amount of the republican party that are conservative Christian evangelicals. they often support candidates that they feel agree with them when it comes to faith and beliefs. Trump has likely gotten support from some of them because they likely agree with his position on immigration or the economy, but they are not sold on him sharing their faith. Carson is the kind of guy who shares their faith so in a place like Iowa where there is a good concentration of evangelicals it is no surprise that they have picked him as the person they support.
It has nothing to do with race and everything to do with religion.
