I'm interested to know, what makes a person Anti-American? And I don't mean the obvious ones who bash all that is America at every opportunity.
I mean, I have a serious problem with what is perceived as democracy in the US. I see both major political parties as being essentially the same. Most politicians will lie to get elected and it's expected. No one wants change once they are elected. They just want to stay elected.
I also have a serious problem with the way "entitlements" are handed out as, well, entitlements. When I was growing up, if you were on Welfare or Food Stamps - you were looked upon with disdain. Now it seems people are proud to get whatever they can from the government, without having to actually earn it.
These two factors, coupled with what I feel is terrible American agression in our foreign policy make me ashamed of the way things run in the US. But I don't consider that American bashing. I consider that having an informed opinion based on what I read and see and believe.
That said, I consider myself a proud American, a patriot. I also believe if you have $1 in your pocket and ambition and a willingness to work, you can become successful more easily in the US than in any other country. To me, that's what makes America great.
So, am I anti-American?
