People like him don't deal well in reality. Te most likely scenario is that when it gets closer to trial his attorney is telling him how fucked he is, to take the deal, telling him he's going to do time and because he's not hearing what he wants to hear, he fires the messenger. He can only think in terms of what he wants, not what is. Pretty typical of a sociopath. As he rots after a conviction, his story will always be that his attorney fucked him, everyone lied, nothing was fair etc.
