Thank you all
Thank you all for the good feedback. Particularly AdultKing. Your answer was quite complete, and I appreciate the time and thought you put into it.
That being said, I'm going to charge forward. I don't want to get into a point-by-point, except on the choice of technology. Choosing Spring meant that it could be done in 100% REST, while still having the advantages of a more stable platform. The reason I went this way is that we can radically change the way the platform works easily, without causing a bunch of technical debt. That way, if I bring on contributors who see a niche, we can pivot to it easily.
Again, I appreciate the cautions. But, if anyone reading this wants to work on a platform that can be built to do exciting new things, please let me know. I'm looking to build the medium-term roadmap now. Even if the nay-sayers are right, it's a time when we can build something cool with no investors, board or outside pressure. If you've used those sites and thought "If I had a talented coder, I could do better", then I'm looking for you.
