I take Allopurinol every day and it works for me. I've not had a problem in way more than ten years. But I keep Colchicine on hand just in case.

The doctors told me that Colchecine is an ancient medicine that was used by the Indians way before White people stopped by to visit. As rough as it can be on GI tract, it works, too, while all the more modern anti-inflamatories are chancy and dicy from one person to another. And they have longer term adverse potential.

The worst part of this gout thing is the strong association with coronary artery disease and heart attacks. The crystals seem to either concentrate there or encourage deposit growth. It is probably/almost for sure something that shortens expected life span. I've known gout suffers who died that way. For what it's worth, they were the guys running around with big bottles of modern anti-inflamatories. Maybe just a coincidence, maybe.
