take a walk every day (or at least couple a times per week) for half hour or more - since I started to walk, gout attack never came back to me and my friend who is sitting whole day and not have some physical activities, have attacks every few weeks or when he just smell the beer. after 3-4 beers he can't walk anymore
I got first attack some 5 years ago, after I've been on work without too much moving and with too much meat and alcohol for couple of years. doctor gave me alopurinol and after few months I never took it again
from foods I cut out several foods: beef, liver (pates especially) and dried sausages. experts claims that you should also cut some blue fish - sardinas, anchoves, mackarels. meat soups. from vegetables - beans and similar stuff. white bread. even tomato should be avoided (when you see the list, there is 3-4 allowed foods... )
I didn't cut above foods completely, but eat them rare (except fish and tomato), maximum once per month. liver and similar stuff I cut completely
beer - I live in Czech Republic, beer and meat is on every step and impossible to avoid. red wine is my favorite wine and I can say that I didn't cut the drink too much and I eat nice amount of pork and often seafood. also I don't avoid rum and vodka... once per month, or two. or 3, I get really drunk
so, not exactly healthy lifestyle and still didn't encounter second attack for a years
I don't drink sodas and any kind of juices, only water. and alcohol drinks when is occasion. plenty of vegetables and olive oil in everyday food and drink plenty of water
baking soda - that can bring your blood ph to neutral - just one smallest spoon in glass of water once/twice per day in some 10 days period - I think regular drinking of that can bring you another trouble (surf the net) but it helped some people to stop attacks - I did that 10 days round
personally, i think that walks helped - 2-3 kilometers per day only of normal walk on fresh air - it is just walk to buy groceries. plus some food adjustment and avoiding beer.
