And yes you're right - the computers of this era did nothing at all unless you typed in the programs, which was freaking awesome. I loved it.
Best game ever: "Trek 79", or any of its variations. You "flew" the Starship Enterprise to coordinates like 7,5, sector 5,5, hoping to not hit a sun on the way. All the "graphics" were ascii characters like E for Enterprise, K for Klingon, etc, and that was it. Fucking LOVED it.
