For me personally, (i've actually cut carbs out recently), it never happens for in less than 48 hrs. I've tried doing hrs of cardio etc and it hasn't helped me get there faster. It may vary a bit from person to person and we do kinda sorta bounce in and out throughout the day based on how we are eating - but to be in ketosis to the point that it will show on ketostix takes me at least 48hrs. Mostly, i presume because a significant amount of glycogen is stored in your liver and because proteins in part, get converted to glucose - even though you're eating low carb. That's why the optimal way to lose weight on a ketogenic diet is to have a fairly high % of calories from fat, not protein (more than 1/2 for example)
