A couple of months ago I was listening to NPR and there was a piece on a guy who had gone over there and come back. Apparently, there's a lot of rhetoric being used to mislead Muslims into thinking this is a fight against oppression, but once they get there they learn otherwise, but are stuck. These are non-mainstream sources, as their target audience are Muslims who for whatever reason mistrust western media. (Sound like anyone we know?)

This guy recounted the routine sexual abuse of young Muslim boys by the ISIS soldiers, which understandably disgusted him and prompted his return. Now he operates a non-profit trying to educate those disenfranchised Muslims before they make the same mistake.

Just something to think about.
