That's the crazy thing with space exploration... what you see in your telescope happened centuries ago.
Not only would you need to find an alien technology somewhere but it would have to be visible thousands of years ago (or had the time to travel to a "noticeable distance".
If you ask me: in an infinite universe, math will have it that there's an infinity of "civilizations" out there. Now are we ever going to bump into another one... not likely.
