everything comes with an advertsising cost, have you tried to read a news link on your phone? pop ups, install our app, more popups, auto run video commercials, all before you can even get to the news story.
besides, the # of vendors willing to pay top dollar to air a commercial is a testimony to how exciting the game is to watch. the # of commercials has no impact on that excitment as viewership numbers climb. just like roger goodal being a douchenozzle has very little impact on viewership.
i'd bet a hockey broadcast of a 60 minute hockey game lasts close to 3 hours.
