This is why 2/3 of these criminals end up back in the prison system - there is no punishment. Get caught doing something bad and you win a long term vacation. WTF? This is supposed to be punishment. Bread and water three times a day, and a cold dark cell. No TV, no tennis, no basketball - No reading material. This is punishment. It needs to be so bad that someone will never ever want to return and will never ever commit another crime again.

There's nothing BUT punishment. Our prisons are living hells, unless you're wealthy enough to pay your way onto a work farm. We incarcerate more people than any other civilized nation. Our recidivism rates are among the highest, we use prisoners as slave labor, we sell them like cattle to private prison operators.
Countries that focus on rehab have recidivism rates about 1/3 of ours.
What the fuck kind of country do you people want to live in?
