Carson was "mom and dad" funny. The type of funny that as a kid, you knew was a little too raunchy for your ears, which made it even better. But this is today, and as an adult, when I watch Carson he seems a bit cheesy. And did someone really say Jack Paar?

-- He was grandma and grandpa (maybe even great grandma and great grandpa) funny, Great Depression funny. He set the standard? For what, black and white TV?
Comedy has changed over time, and I'm not taking anything away from Carson, or even Paar. But if you go back and watch some of their clips, it's like watching an open mike session at an old folk's home. Cheesy funny, but not hilarious.
