Because we live in a hypersensitive society. It's all about perception, and with everyone being quick to charge people with racist actions, most anything can be interpreted as "racist". Here's a quick example of how this psychology works.
Two men walk into a restaurant at
the exact same time, and there is only one open table. If the hostess escorts the black man to the table first, that's good customer service, everyone is happy. BUT - if the white man complains, he's labeled a racist. Now if the hostess acknowledges the white man first and seats him, then she's labeled a racist, and the restaurant is smeared for employing bigots. It's all over social media, the place is boycotted, yada, yada, yada.
You see how it's a catch 22 situation? At the end of the day, you are forced to cater to the black man, otherwise it will be considered racist. End of story.
