The moment they closed the screen behind the gate, I started to question the thinking behind the writing. Stabbing walkers through the head and they form a protecting barrier.
Still any series like this that hasn't figured out a dagger is not a good weapon against zombies, a Gladius would be far better. And an arm or hand to hold off an enemy with a lethal bite is useless compared to a shield. Can't be held up for reality writing.
The obvious plan was for the some residents to get out via the back exit, and create a diversion rather than wait for people they don't know are coming. I guess no one on the writing team has a clue.
