I had figured the reason was financial, like he runs a glp . com type site and ran topics up the flag pole here to test their veracity for posting there, cha-ching. I've always assumed theres a big motivator other than just troll for fun like most of us do. But an even bigger motivator is the reason you cited, a deep seated emotional reason.
His recent thread about his GFy search sorting threads by total views certainly backs all this up.
