Which exactly "story" are you talking about? The story presented by BBC? Russian news haven't reported that. As I said in my morning post, there was no story that the plane was hit from the ground. They just considered it, because the army bombers fly on the low attitude and they are easy targets for surface-to-air missiles.

No, they did it in the Syrian sky. Nobody can say for sure is it has crossed the Turkish border before of that, but we are surly know it was hit over Syria and fell at Syrian territory too.

As about the possible full-scale war. I'll tell you small secret: Russia can destroy Turkey on 70% or so within about 30 minutes using tactical nukes only. The problem is that Turkey is a NATO ally and we have a lot of Russian tourists there.
P.S. Everybody knows how Georgia has ended up when it attacked the Russian forces in 2008. Even w/o nukes and with lesser ground forces.
