Angler says fish destroyed his marriage
An angler who now says he lied about catching one of the world's biggest trout has come clean because he says it destroyed his marriage.
Clive White told the Angling Times he found the 36lb 14oz fish washed up on the bank eight years ago.
He says the guilt put him off angling forever and made his life 'hell'.
It is believed to be the first time in 30 years of official record-keeping that one has been ratified only to be exposed as a sham.
Clive, from Andover in Hampshire, claimed to have caught the fish at Dever Springs fishery in April 1995 and it beat the record by 6lb 2oz, says the Daily Express.
The 35-year-old told the magazine: "I cannot live a lie anymore as it has destroyed my marriage and it very nearly destroyed me.
"As a result I have given up fishing altogether. My life has been hell because I've always had to lie and I distanced myself from my family and children."
