you are missing the bigger picture... if Poland gets attacked now, rest of NATO may or may not actually defend them... but if US nukes/troops/etc end up in Poland, then rest of NATO will have no choice but to defend Poland...
so on one hand Poland will become a target, but at the same time will become an important asset that rest of NATO will have to defend...
...and really all this makes zero difference from strategic point of view, NATO nukes are already in Germany which is only marginally further away, and there is no reason why nuke armed subs couldn't be in the baltic / black sea... so putting nukes in Poland doesn't change anything, except solidify relationship between Poland and rest of NATO...
