2016 will definitely be the year of the big breakthrough.. We noticed that currently there are a lot of people that are starting or setting up VR content related projects..
However I believe that it will really become mainstream not earlier than 2017 or perhaps even in 2018.. It's basically the same as with every electronic revolution (digital printers etc) it first has to become cheaper before the majority of the people pick it up...
That doesn't mean that you should not start already. It is really good period to "experiment" and you will be 2 steps ahead once it will become mainstream
