a mind fuck to consider is that Conner wasn't consciously aware of throwing the punch until well after well after Aldo was unconscious. among the many illusions we live in, one is that we are experiencing the world in real time. we aren't. conscious awareness lags 400ms or so behind the event. the process of executing a motor movement such as that in a fight means your brain first identifies the stimulus (Aldo initiating the punch, the velocity, angle, anticipated point of impact etc), it then selects the response (to block, slip, move, counter etc etc etc) and then lastly programs and executes the reaction. this takes a great deal of time. training in anything makes this process faster. better timed and automatic and eventually, below conscious awareness (once a skill is fully learned with enough repetition).
