It's not about a viewpoint or who's right or wrong or making sense with Russians. It's about continuing the argument until you decide to quit and therefore they win. It's a battle of wills and Russians will contradict themselves and turn themselves into a pretzel just to keep the argument going. It's how they beat the Nazis. It's how they beat Napoleon. They just never give up and are so annoying that people just eventually go away, leaving the Russians to celebrate thinking they've "won".
