Yep, Russians and people of Caucasus always eat a lot when they drink. It's considered as a bad form if you have invited guests to celebrate something (a birthday or a new year - doesn't manner) and haven't served the table with a ton of various food. Not some canapes. It must be a real food (salads, meat etc). The people here can eat and drink this way for many hours. That's a very old tradition which has roots in ancient times.
