This is EXACTLY why I got out of the standard membership sites years ago.
It started with exponentially expanding free affiliate content. So much free 'promo' content that people started asking why even buy porn. I remember back in 2006 I became an affiliate along with being the webmaster of my own sites. I joined as an affiliate for several sites and in no time I had so much free content thrown at me that I didn't even have time to organize it.
Then password sharing sites, then newsreaders and torrents, then the final nail in the coffin - tube sites..
So IMO membership sites selling access to pics and videos is very hard to profit from, and if you have good content people will just pirate it via torrent or newsreaders.
Interactive sites, live streaming content, and selling adult related services (like adverts, design, scripts, selling niche traffic, etc.) seems to be the only thing that works now. Of course I'm sure there are some legacy sites out there that still turn a profit, but it's a pain in the ass filing DMCAs and tracking down all the assholes stealing your content.
