Some of them do overdo it.
I used to live with one and she had a rule that I couldn't cook steak or chicken when she was home. She said she couldn't stand the smell in the house.
She was really skinny.
Everytime she cooked her grains, the smell when into my room and it was annoying but I tolerated it, even when she went to the rest room I could smell it there..
