Example sentence of proper English:

You cannot take "a lot" out of my sentence because that's clearly a part of what I said.

"A lot" is a large collection of something.

You don't write "there are a large collection" you write "there is a large collection"

Breaking down my sentence I said "There is a lot of stupid Americans"

Meaning "There is a large collection of stupid Americans"

In the case of using "a lot" using "There is a lot." is correct, saying "There are a lot." to refer to a large collection is probably ok also but most likely in proper English sounds and looks wrong.

So picking out my grammar on this sentence is clearly wrong and also a failed attempt by you to look superior to everyone else, which you're not.

In other words "There is a lot to laugh at when it comes to Dyna Mo.".
