OP it may be an open secret that apple is making a car...but teslas track record on quality of construction is an open secret too, mostly noted if you read consumer reports. Tesla is having to replace a lot of expensive parts under warranty, like entire drivetrains. any model X quality problems might bring down the whole operation. If EV cars cannot be made durable, forget it.
point being, silicon valley wizards know silicon, not cars. Toyota or GM will lead. apple cant just hire 5 cent an hour children in china to build their cars like they build phones.
