Exactly. Turkmen emigrated from the Turkish-Syrian border area to Germany after WW2. Many of the immigrant Turkish guest workers now have children born in Germany and many have chosen German nationality and citizenship. It's only logical for them to want to help the current Syrian Muslim refugees as they share a common history. Much the same as many US Americans wanted the USA to be involved in WW2. Their countrymen from their original homelands were threatened by the Axis.
Canada has a large Muslim immigrant population, the Pakis being the most prolific -- they are a political force, I would assume, influencing government policy in Canada. Muslim-Americans have little influence as they constitute less than 1% of the US population ( a small voting block).
