Anything in the media here about the US election has pretty much been all Donald Trump. To an outside observer with probably only half the story - even though he just seems to say the most reactionary thing he can think of he has done very well in spouting off to things instantly and making any other candidate have to respond to "Donald Trump said this..." so getting other peoples interviews to be all about him too.
Most of the UK government public petitions are either set up by trolls who are up to mischief, or lunatics who got their education from youtube, and they aren't taken very seriously. Occasionally there will be a petition about something worthwhile but they get drowned under the ridiculous ones. The online petition system is a way of parliament being able to pretend they are debating things the public actually wants them to, when in reality it will often be a debate in a side room attended by a small handful of politicians nobody respects or cares about.
You won't see a petition for Cruz because nobody here knows who that is. I wouldn't recognise him (is it a him?) if he turned up at my door.
You won't see one for Clinton because all that has been said about her is stuff about her emails and nobody here knows the rules about that enough to care.
