Your example is not a good one because if you look at the history of Christianity what you are describing is precisely how new groups have evolved and split out on their own over the millennia since its inception.
"Sects" are merely segregations based on variances and nuances of beliefs. However, all Christian sects are integrated by the belief that Jesus is the son of God who gave his only son, blah, blah, blah.
