While it is correct that fresh is best it should be noted here that no strain of avocado ripens on the tree, avocados do not ripen until they fall off the tree or are picked.

It is true that they and most other produce are picked then sprayed with chemicals that ripen them, which is why tomatoes (actually a berry) taste so bland. You can improve that taste by putting them in sunlight in your kitchen window until they turn a deeper red also NEVER store fresh tomatoes in the refrigerator.

I love home grown Tomatoes and grow my own, as well as hot ppers and hot banana peppers. you just cant beat the ripened on the vine tase, specially when fertilized properly.

the best way to pick out tomatoes at the market is to smell them...tf they smell like tomatoes they will be better than the ones with no smell, let em ripen a few days in a sunny window and its better than otherwise....cheers!
