LSD much better with GD - the jams are an epic journey on a treacherous mountain highway where the Zep jams are like a stalled vehicle off a dirt road on a rainy day.

Pure poetry!
And yes, I am totally with you on this one. When the live Zep 3 CD set came out (How The West Was Won) I was so excited because I had never heard Led Zeppelin live other than the very weak The Song Remains The Same soundtrack. Man was I disappointed! There was some good acoustic stuff on there but the rest was exactly like you said.
I want to get back into the Dead but it makes me so sad to hear their music now. I hated it when jerry died and the roving caravan of fans that followed them everywhere just stopped. To me, that and Cobain equaled the death of rock as we knew it.
Sniff.
