I can tell you how the law works here in Czech and in the UK. Unless you can point me to an Austrian law that says the teachers were right to exclude you. Yes, I doubt your claim.
As for the EU being xenophobic. You couldn't be further from the truth. Europeans have no problem with doctors, lawyers, scientists, etc. From different races who have a culture that fits in with ours. We object to having another person's culture that we take offence to thrust upon us. We don't want a culture that regards women as second-class to men, children as possessions, think women should be covered up. Or worse. Have a culture of honor killing and not as open and moderate as we are.
We see inter-marrying and inter-relationships in most races now in the EU. Except with Muslims, they are opposed to this to the point of killing their children for being too Westernised. That's unacceptable whatever their race or colour. With Muslims, it's part of their culture.
Even withing Islam it's a problem.
Can you see their problem yet. Or is their hatred towards other Muslims, the fault of the US?
