Bernie was expected to win. If I recall correctly, Bernie has been an independent most of his life until relatively recently, and NH has a large demographic of independents.

However, it has become rather clear that Bernie is a very serious contender to Clinton and has a good chance of winning. I am surprised really; I sort of thought of Bernie as "token" candidate - not meant to be taken seriously.

However, this might be a good thing for the Democratic party. While I disagree with this, a lot of people think Clinton has baggage and these items might become serious problems for her.

Either way, when the polls put Trump vs Hillary or Bernie, Trump doesn't win. This might change, but I think that any serious politician going head to head against Trump would chew him up and spit him out. I've often wondered what it would be like if someone with no political experience but.... I don't think Trump can pull it off.
